Doc Rivers is one of the most accomplished and respected leaders in NBA history, recognized among the league’s 15 greatest coaches and ranking among the all-time leaders in career wins.
 

Rivers recently concluded his distinguished coaching career following his tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks, retiring after more than two decades on the sidelines with over 1,000 career victories. Throughout his career, he built a reputation for leadership, consistency, and the ability to elevate teams to sustained success.
 

He served as head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers (2020–23) following a highly successful seven-year tenure with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he became the winningest coach in franchise history. Prior to that, Rivers led the Boston Celtics for nine seasons, highlighted by the 2008 NBA Championship and an NBA-best 66–16 record. Under his leadership, the Celtics captured six division titles and made two NBA Finals appearances.
 

The 1999–2000 NBA Coach of the Year, Rivers is one of a select group of coaches to win an NBA title while consistently guiding teams deep into the postseason. His playoff résumé ranks among the most accomplished in league history.
 

Rivers began his head coaching career with the Orlando Magic, earning Coach of the Year honors in his first season after leading a roster featuring four undrafted starters to a .500 record. He went on to guide the franchise to three consecutive playoff appearances from 2000–03. Internationally, he served as an assistant coach for USA Basketball, helping secure a gold medal at the 2001 Goodwill Games.

A 2026 inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Rivers’ impact extends far beyond wins and losses. He is widely regarded for his leadership, communication, and ability to inspire individuals and teams at the highest level.

Before coaching, Rivers enjoyed a 13-year NBA playing career with the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, and San Antonio Spurs. An NBA All-Star in 1988, he averaged 10.9 points and 5.7 assists and remains one of the top assist leaders in Atlanta franchise history. He also represented the United States in international competition, earning MVP honors while leading Team USA to a silver medal at the 1982 World Championship of Basketball.
 

Off the court, Rivers has been widely recognized for his character and community impact, earning honors including the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award and the Sam Lacy Pioneer Award. He remains deeply committed to leadership development, youth engagement, and advancing the global game of basketball.
